Many thanks, as always, to the Alma for its support
Low Traffic Neighbourhoods are catching on all over London. In Islington, Hackney, Enfield, and elsewhere. But it is the Borough of Waltham Forest that over the past 3 years has worked with local communities to bring them into existence over a large part of their borough. Over 60,000 people there now live in such Neighbourhoods and have quiet, safe streets free of rat-running traffic, and healthy, clean air for the first time.
Our Speaker: Paul Gasson lives in Waltham Forest. He has been the most prominent member of the community working with local people and the Council to bring these Low Traffic Neighbourhoods into existence. He does a superb PowerPoint presentation:
- Explaining what a Low Traffic Neighbourhood is all about.
- The benefits to residents that have resulted in Waltham Forest.
- What worries some people had when these neighbourhoods were first suggested, and how they were dealt with.
- Why Councillors (including from our Borough of Wandsworth), Officers, and Londoners living in other boroughs have been going on organised tours to see for themselves what the changes have been, and what difference they have made to where people live.
The purpose of this meeting is for all of us to discuss where in Wandsworth Low Traffic Neighbourhoods might bring most benefits to local residents. And how we can go about persuading our Council to introduce them. So do come along with your ideas.
Please put this date in your diaries and come. It would be most encouraging to hear from you whether you are able to come. Do bring any friends who might be interested along with you.
